Muscat: Seeb capitalised on their domestic domination in 2022 by earning a crucial continental accomplishment as they were crowned AFC Cup champions after defeating Kuala Lumpur City FC 3-0 in a thrilling final on Saturday at the National Stadium Bukit Jalil.

With the Asian title Seeb opened a new chapter in Oman’s football history by winning their maiden AFC Cup. Seeb managed to earn four major achievements in this season (2022) including: Top-tier league crown (Omantel League), Super Cup, HM Cup championship and AFC Cup.

The Oman heroes put in a top performance to overcome the Malaysian side which enjoyed the support of thousands of fans at the at the National Stadium Bukit Jalil in Kuala Lumpur City. Seeb stars turned on the power in the both halves of the AFC Cup summit clash to score three goals by Ali al Busaidy, Abdulaziz al Maqbali and Mohsin al Ghassani. The three goals handed Seeb the title for the first time in history.

BIG JOY

Seeb head coach Rasheed Jabar expressed his joy after leading Seeb to the first-ever AFC Cup title. He affirmed after the match that the triumph is the beginning of a successful journey for Seeb in the near future. “ I am proud of the club players for their top show. Seeb heroes became Asian champions and managed to secure this title for the first time. I hope this is just the beginning and more will be coming soon.”

The former coach of Dhofar expressed his joy and he thanked the team. “It was more than 50 years until approaching this moment to lift the most prestigious cup. The team worked very hard until arriving at the final match and registered the triumph in this continental competition. It was an excellent show from Seeb players,” he added in the post-match conference.

Responding to a query on the opponent missing scoring attempts, coach Rasheed said: "Paulo Josue tested our defenders and goalkeeper a lot as he tried to score from different styles including from free kicks and from different areas. Seeb’s defenders and goalie Ahmed al Rawahi proved their strength as they managed to stop the strikers and prevented any goals.”

“Our players began the match strongly and managed to score from the beginning. It is not easy to score three goals against a well-organised team but Seeb players broke that due to their proper tactical playing system,” Jaber concluded.

On the other hand, Seeb Club captain Eid al Farsi was awarded the AFC Cup 2022 Most Valuable Player award. The former national team player played a major role in leading Seeb to their maiden AFC Cup title.
