Seeb emerge junior national TT champions

Seeb (A) club lifted the title of the Junior (under-13) National Table Tennis Championship after defeating Ibri (B) 2-0 in a thrilling final match on Saturday at main indoor hall of the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex.


The three days event featured participation of 14 teams representing many domestic clubs including Seeb, Ibri, Qurayat, Jaalan and Salalah. The tournament was organised by the Oman Table Tennis Association (OTTA).


Ibri (A) team managed to end the championship in third place as they edged Qurayat 2-1 in the third/fourth play-off match.


Seeb's talented player Ali bin Muneer al Rawahi clinched the individual title as he managed to beat his rival Nasser bin Abdullah al Zaabi from Saham club 3-0 in the final match. Ibri’s potential star Eyad bin Mohammed al Jassasi ended the tournament in third place after his triumph over Ahmed al Ismaili in the third and fourth play-off game.


After completion of the final singles game, Abdullah bin Mohammed Bamakhalef, chairman of Oman Table Tennis Association (OTTA), the chief guest, handed over the awards, medal and trophies to the top winners and clubs in presence of board members.


Seeb club secured spot in the final match of teams competition after they topped the second-leg group matches which witnessed clubs of Al Basaher and Ibri (B). Then, the team played against Jaalan in last eight round and managed to win the game at 2-0. In the semifinal, Seeb players beat Qurayat (A) 2-0. Seeb players dominated Ibri (B) 2-0 in the concluding match.


Champion Ali al Rawahi began his campaign in the singles competition with a 3-1 win over Al Mutassin al Battashi (Qurayat) in the last 16 stage. Then, Ali al Rawahi defeated Turki al Abri (Seeb) 3-1 in the quarterfinals before beating Eyad al Jassasi (Ibri) 3-0 in the semifinal. Then, Ali managed to end the final match 3-0 against Nasser al Zaabi.
