Oman-Iran military panel wraps up annual meet

Muscat: Oman-Iran Military Friendship Joint Committee concluded its annual meeting in Al Shafaq Club of the Sultan's Armed Forces on Thursday.


During the three-day meeting, the Omani side is headed by Brigadier Abdulaziz bin Abdullah al Manthari, Assistant Chief of Staff of the Sultan’s Armed Forces (SAF) for Operations and Planning, Head of the Oman delegation in the joint committee, while the Iranian side was headed by Brigadier Mohammed Ahadi.


The meeting touched on several matters on the agenda which aim to enhance cooperation in military fields and boost the committee’s activities.


At the end of the meeting, the Assistant Chief of Staff of the Sultan's Armed Forces thanked the Iranian delegation for its participation in the meeting.


For his part, the head of the Iranian delegation thanked the Omani side for the interest in this meeting. He said the meeting reflected the depth of Oman-Iran relations. He also highlighted a series of meetings held by the Iranian delegation with a number of leaders and senior officials at the Ministry of Defence, the Royal Oman Police and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.


On the sidelines of the conclusion of the annual periodic meeting of the Oman-Iran Military Friendship Committee, ships of the Royal Navy of Oman and the Islamic Republic of Iran Navy along with helicopters of the Royal Air Force of Oman, the Royal Oman Police and the Iranian Air Force carried out joint maritime exercise in Sea of Oman.The exercise included training in search and rescue operations.


The exercise was attended by Brigadier Al Manthari, Brigadier Ahadi, Brigadier Hassan bin Ali al Mujaini, Head of Moral Guidance and Military Ceremonies, members of the Oman-Iran Military Friendship Committee, and military attachés of the Embassy of the Sultanate of Oman in Tehran and Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Muscat.


The annual exercise is part of the training plans pursued by the Royal Navy of Oman with brotherly and friendly countries with the aim of exchanging experiences and maintaining high efficiency in various fields. — ONA
