The Oman Olympic Committee participated in the Olympic Council of Asia's 41st General Assembly in the Cambodian capital Phnom Penh on Tuesday.
The General Assembly was chaired by Raja Randhir Singh, Acting chairman of OCA, in the presence of Hun Sen, Prime Minister of Cambodia, Thong Khun, chairman of the Cambodian Olympic Committee, as well as representatives of the 40 Asian Olympic Committee. The Oman Olympic Committee was represented by Taha bin Sulaiman al Kishry, Secretary-General, and Dr Marwan bin Juma al Jumaa, Member of the Board of Directors.
Hun Sen inaugurated the assembly in the presence of 400 sports officials. During the opening a minute of silence was observed in memory of the victims of the soccer stadium tragedy in Indonesia last Saturday.
During the assembly, Saudi Arabia won the rights to host the Asian Winter Games 2029, after voting by the representatives of the Asian National Olympic Committees.
Saudi Arabia's Riyadh will be the first city to host the winter event in West Asia. The previous editions of the Winter Games were hosted by China, Japan, South Korea and Kazakhstan.
The reports of the next four Asian sessions were also reviewed, in Hangzhou 2023, Aichi-Nagoya 2026, Doha 2030 and Riyadh 2034. In addition to presenting reports on the Riyadh's preparations to host the Asian Indoor Games and Martial Arts VII 2025, and the hosting of Asian Indoor Games and Martial Arts by Thailand in 2023.
At the end of the meeting, the Medal of Merit was awarded to the chairman of the Olympic Committee of Cambodia, Dr Thong Khun, and Secretary-General of the Olympic Committee of Vietnam, Tran van Manh in recognition of their efforts in serving Asian sports. Sri Lankan Dr Chaturanga Ranasinghe and Singaporean Dr Marcus Lee were awarded the Sheikh Fahad Award ‘Hiroshima’ Sports Medicine in Asia.
