Strong cultural bond between Oman and Jordan

Muscat: Relations between the Sultanate of Oman and Jordan assume significance due to their deep-rooted historical ties. It became stronger after the beginning of the Renaissance in the country. The ties gave impetus to education and knowledge sharing between the two countries.


From the beginning of the Renaissance in the Sultanate of Oman, the Jordanian position was different from the positions of some Arab governments, as Jordan provided support to the Sultanate of Oman even in its tough times.


The foundations of this distinguished relations were laid by late King Al Hussein bin Talal and late His Majesty Sultan Qaboos.


What represents the brotherly relationship between the two countries over time is the strong relationship that linked the two late leaders: Sultan Qaboos and Al Hussein bin Talal.


They had a personal friendship, as this relationship resulted in the presence of nearly six thousand Jordanian citizens working in the Sultanate of Oman in the public and private sectors, mainly concentrated in the educational, academic, training and engineering sectors, and administrative and financial functions in companies, banks and factories.


This distinguished relationship between the two brotherly countries continued with King Abdullah II. King Abdullah II and late His Majesty Sultan Qaboos had strong personal ties.


Same bond is reflected between King Abdullah II and His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik. Both exchange views, consultations and coordination on Arab and regional issues, guard the interest of the two brotherly countries and people to serve their nations and support issues.


The websites of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan mention the cooperation of Jordan, its leadership, the government and the people for the Sultanate of Oman since the beginning of its blessed Renaissance, keeping pace with the path of goodness, construction and development in it, and hastened to meet its needs of qualified cadres and expertise in the educational, economic, cultural and medical fields.


In the same manner, the Sultanate of Oman has been a support for Jordan in all times, and it has spared no effort in supporting its causes and directions.


On cultural and joint relations, the establishment of the Omani Studies Unit at Jordan’s Al al-Bayt University in 1998, was an example of cultural engagement of late His Majesty Sultan Qaboos with Jordan.


Also, cultural cooperation between the Sultanate of Oman and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan is formed in literary participation in intellectual, literary forums and festivals. Even between Omani and Jordanian writers, in addition to the two countries’ participation in international book fairs organised in Muscat and Amman.


In the field of academic relations, the Jordanian teaching bodies have contributed with their Omani counterparts in the educational renaissance that the Sultanate of Oman has witnessed in recent decades, as about hundreds of teachers and university professors are working in the Sultanate of Oman. Also, the trend for more cooperation in the educational, academic and scientific field in light of praising the Jordanian teacher distinction and psychological and social closeness to the Omani student.
