Muscat: A team from the Royal Hospital’s obstetrics and gynaecology department conducted Oman’s first successful surgery using the new technique of “vNOTES”.

Dr Thuraya Rashid al Rawahi, Senior Consultant, Oncology Surgery, at the Royal Hospital, said that “vNOTES” (vaginal natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery) has been used for uterus and ovary resection.

Dr Thuraya told Oman News Agency (ONA) that “vNOTES” is the latest technology in gynaecologic surgery using the body’s natural openings, like the vagina.

“The process is fast and does not involve any external cuts. After a short period of mild pain, the patient reverts to normal life, escaping the complications of traditional surgeries,” Dr Thuraya confirmed.
