Al Mazunah Free Zone, set up on Oman’s border with Yemen, has attracted a total of 251 projects to date, underscoring its growing importance as a hub for trade and investment. Of this total, 152 are commercial investments, 29 automotive related, 44 service-centred, 24 industrial, and two real estate projects.

During the first half of this year, Al Mazunah Free Zone received 23 investment applications in the industrial, commercial, and service sectors. They include ten commercial contracts.

Several infrastructure projects are currently being implemented in the zone, including a security project, which is 75 per cent complete. The project consists of a security fence equipped with surveillance cameras and high-quality lighting. A water desalination plant will be built to supply clean water to the zone.

To support investment inflows into the zone, Shumookh Investment and Services Company – an affiliate of Madayn (Public Establishment for Industrial Estates), is constructing a multi-use facility and service building project at a cost of RO 3 million. The building, covering an area of over 11,000 square metres, is nearing completion. It will house a variety of facilities, commercial and service offices in one building.

Furthermore, the free zone's second phase of construction is presently ongoing, and it comprises a new road network, water network and water tanks, an optical fibre communications network, electrical supplies, and drainage system.

Meanwhile, the Free Zone handled the flow of around 3,050 vehicles worth RO 11.866 million during the first six months of this year.

Among its many accomplishments, Al Mazunah Free Zone has attracted a strategic investor and is currently overseeing the development of a 3 million square metre site that is divided into investment-ready plots.

Besides offering import and export services, the free zone also features commercial premises, retail shops, warehouses business, automotive showrooms, customs clearing offices, haulage, hotels, grocery outlets, and manufacturing facilities specializing in the production of plastics, culinary utensils, decorations, and cosmetics, among other items.

Al Mazyona Free Zone, maintained and operated by Madayn, is an important gateway for transit commerce to Yemen and, from there, to East African countries. It also makes a significant contribution to the Omani economy.

With a total area of about 15 million square metres, Al Mazyona Free Zone is distinguished by a plethora of services and amenities such as tax exemption for up to 30 years, customs exemption, 100 per cent ownership of projects, and exemption from the minimum capital prescribed in the law corporations.
