Pact inked for Muttrah Square project handover

MUSCAT: In response to the Royal orders of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, entrusting Muscat Municipality for the implementation of the Muttrah Square project, winner of the first prize of the Bilarab bin Haitham Award for Architectural Design, an agreement was signed whereby the project will be handed over to the municipality, on Tuesday.


Sayyid Saud bin Hilal al Busaidy, Governor of Muscat presided over the signing ceremony which was held at Al Wahat Club, on Tuesday.


The signing of the memorandum underscores the Award’s vision towards implementing the project on the ground and tapping the youths’ potentials by turning their projects and designs into reality thus shaping civilizational landmarks that serve all society segments and adding aesthetic touches to the selected locations.


Ahmed bin Issa al Shukaili, member of the main committee of the award, delivered a speech in which he expressed his thanks and appreciation for His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik for supporting the Bilarab bin Haitham Award for Architectural Design. He added that the attention and keenness His Highness Sayyid Bilarab bin Haitham al Said accorded to the award has had a profound effect on the success of the first edition of the award.


The signing of the memorandum for the project handover is a testament to the success of the Bilarab bin Haitham Award for Architectural Design, commending the municipality’s cooperation and efforts it undertook to make the award successful and to implement the project on the ground.


Dr Suhail bin Salim al Shanfari, director of media department at Muscat Municipality, affirmed that the municipality supports the innovative designs and projects of the Omani youth. He added that the construction of Muttrah Square project would add more beauty to the iconic waterfront in Muttrah. Once completed, the project is going to become a unique engineering landmark and a major tourist attraction in Muscat Governorate. He noted that the Muscat Municipality will oversee the project until its completion. — ONA
