Oman bans import of plastic bags

Muscat: The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion (MOCIIP) issued a decision 519/2022 on Sunday, banning the import of plastic bags.


Article one of the decision states that companies, institutions, and individuals are prohibited from importing plastic bags, while Article 2 states that RO1,000 will be fined in case of violation.


The fine will be doubled if the violation is repeated.


This decision shall be published in the Official Gazette and shall come into force from January 1, 2023.
