The 2022-2023 season of the Royal Opera House Muscat has been generously curated resulting in a packed programme of musical performances spanning an impressive range of genres. The new season from the Royal Opera House Muscat is designed to offer audiences a varied and world-class programme to enjoy until the end of May 2023.

As its season opener, ROHM is bringing Placido Domingo to Oman to headline Verdi's beloved classical opera La Traviata.

A critically acclaimed production, directed by Marta Domingo, the setting is WWII in Italy, amidst the uncertainty of the future. For this performance, Plácido Domingo will star as Germont for opening night, with internationally acclaimed singers Nino Machaidze as Violetta and Vittorio Grigolo as Alfredo, while Giampaolo Bisanti conducts the Orchestra and Chorus of Teatro Carlo di Genova.

Domingo will conduct the second and third performances with an all-new cast. The performance is enriched with choreography from Compañía Antonio Gades.

Verdi’s three-act opera tells the story of a courtesan, Violetta, who has captured the heart of a young admirer, Alfredo. True love blossoms and they leave behind the social whirl to begin a new quiet life together. Penury and twisting fate separates them temporarily, leaving Violetta vulnerable to the emotional blackmail of Alfredo’s father who wants his son to marry someone of his own social status. The tragedy slowly unfolds with bittersweet heartache to a final beautiful scene of reconciliation.

A Pre-Performance talk for ticket holders will be held one hour before each performance.

La Triviata will have its showing from September 22 to 24, Thursday to Saturday at 7 pm.
