Muscat: German national team will move into a short training camp in the Sultanate before the start of the World Cup 2022 in Qatar, a statement said.

National coach Hansi Flick will prepare his players for the World Cup group matches against Japan on November 23 and Spain on November 27 at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Muscat from November 14 to 18. The team will meet Oman national team in a preparatory game on November 16 at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Center in Muscat.

"Because the World Cup has been postponed to the winter, the preparation for the tournament is different than in previous ones. We only have a little time. The players come from the ongoing Bundesliga game operations and it's important for us that they can acclimatize to the conditions of the region. The Sultanate team will be a good opponent for us and the country will offer ideal sporting conditions."

To date, the German national team met Oman only once in February 1998 in Muscat, which they won after goals from Jürgen Kohler and Jörg Heinrich 2-0.

“The president of the Oman Football Association, Salem bin Saeed al Wahaibi, has reached an agreement with his German counterpart, in coordination with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, to host the German national team in the Sultanate of Oman before heading to Qatar to participate in the World Cup,” a statement said.

“According to the agreement signed between the two parties, the German national team will set up a preparatory camp in the capital, Muscat, from 14-18 November 2022, during which it will play an international friendly match against our first national team on November 16 at 9:00 pm, at Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher."
