Muscat: A surgical team from Sultan Qaboos University Hospital (SQUH) conducted a successful catheterization surgery to patch two atrial septa and lend relief to a patient who suffered a rare case of orthopedic dyspnea (shortness of breath).

The team, led by senior surgeons Dr Fahd Abdullah al Kindi and Dr Khalfan Salim al Sunaidi, managed to improve the subject’s oxygen flow level by 65% to 90% in sitting posture.

Cases of orthopedic dyspnea are rare, and so are heart openings causing them.
