MUSCAT: After a gap of more than eight years, the volleyball coaching course for Level 3 will go back to the East Asian Zone again in Bahrain. The Bahrain Volleyball Federation will host the course in Al Manama city on Monday and will run until September 19.

Oman’s Dr Shihab Aldin Ahmed, who has done more than 65 international courses, and Gordan Mayforth of USA with more than 40 international courses, will deliver the course.

The participants who will attend this course, they have to be FIVB Level 2 qualified and working with a competitive team. Also they have to be committed to develop their technical and tactical understanding of the game and dedicated to furthering their coaching career.

A total of 22 coaches who lead their national teams and clubs in national tournaments and International events will participate in theoretical and practical sessions that involve modern methods in training and modern aspects of volleyball.

The participants include nationalities from Bahrain, Egypt, Tunisia, Kuwait, Oman, Pakistan, India, Palestine, Jordan and Sudan.

The course duration is 60 hours which includes theoretical and practical sessions. In addition, discussion sessions with international experienced coaches will be held.

“Special thanks to the FIVB Development department for this mission which emphasises on elite volleyball coaches and upgrading their knowledge in modern volleyball. Also, many thanks to Bahrain Volleyball Federation and FIVB Development training Centre for active efforts in hosting FIVB courses and improving coaches’ standard in Asia. The Level 3 award prepares an experienced coach to plan, organise, deliver and evaluate a programme of training sessions aimed at improving the technical and tactical performance of individual players and a team over a series of matches (season). In addition, this Level is a high level and professional standard for coaches who already lead the national teams in national and international tournaments,” Dr Shihab said.

“This course will enable coaches to learn many aspects in training science and develop their teams in many ways.”

“It includes planning and delivering a series of coaching sessions based on goal setting and evaluation. This is aimed at improving the performance of individual players and a team over a period.”

“Reviewing your coaching philosophy, individual differences and how that impacts on your work with players.

“Challenged to think about how you put together teams to maximise players’ strengths and provide balance. Introduction of a range of offensive and defensive systems of play and their tactical application. Examining how you plan, deliver and evaluate player improvement through effective practices. Implementation of the principles of match analysis, scouting and match coaching. Awareness of the principle of sport physiology, coaching processes and planning.”

“Exchanging experience and training methods with Olympiad coaches, who have bright experience in FIVB events and Olympic Games is another key factor,” he ended.
