Local Youth Conference "LCOY” on Climate Change kicks off

Muscat: A Local Conference of the Youth (LCOY) on Climate Change began here on Sunday to increase social awareness on climate change and finding possible solutions for the phenomenon.


The conference was organized by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and the Environment Authority (EA) in cooperation with a local voluntary team called Basmatna Gheer or "Our Smile is Different".

The opening ceremony was held under the auspices of Eng Naif Ali al Abri, President of the CAA. Dr Mohammed Saif sl Kalbani, Director General of Environmental Affairs at the EA said that the LCOY comes in preparation for the UN Conference of the Parties (COP) on Climate Change.


Al Kalbani added that the conference underscored the importance of involving youth in tackling the issue of climate change. Several working papers were presented during the conference covering a set of topics, such as air pollution, climate change and its effects on the Sultanate of Oman and the project of planting mangrove trees.
