39,000 Omanis tied the knot in 2021

Muscat: A total of 39,000 Omanis got married during the year 2021, including 34,000 couples getting married for the first time.


Males constituted 49 percent of them, while women constituted 51 percent.


The average age of Omani married couples is 42 years.


On the other hand, the number of Omani divorcees during 2021 is 6,000, bringing the total number of divorced women to 41,549 by the end of 2021, constituting 2.4 percent of the total Omanis (15 years and over), where males constituted 35 percent of them, while women constituted 65 percent.


With regard to the marital status of Omanis by educational level until 2021, the data indicated that 25 percent of married Omanis have a higher education diploma or higher, 37.7 of them have a general education diploma, and 25.1 of them have a certificate without a General Education Diploma (GED).


The Governorate of Muscat came the highest among the governorates in registering marriage documents at 3, 980, an increase of 18.6 percent over the year 2020, followed by the Governorate of North Al Batinah (3,783), a decrease of four percent from the year 2020.


Muscat Governorate also topped the highest number of divorces (853) or 22.2 percent of the total divorce certificates issued, followed by North al Batinah Governorate (723), and Musandam Governorate had the least number of divorce certificates issued (25) in 2021.
