The Sultanate of Oman will take part in the 8th World Financial Symposium (WFS), which will take place from September 19 to 22 in Doha.

Key financial factors that define the future of global airlines, their sustainability and how to address the future demand after two years of resilience will be the key topics at the event, which is to take place at the Sheraton Grand Doha Resort & Convention Hotel in Qatar, hosted by Qatar Airways.

The WFS 2022 is themed 'Reshape Airline Resilience'.

"Our industry has faced unprecedented pressure; the pandemic disrupted our operations like no crisis before. As travel starts picking up and showing signs of recovery, challenges remain and must be addressed for our future and financial sustainability," a key spokesperson from the IATA WFS told the Observer.

"Throughout the crisis, airlines have demonstrated the ability to adapt to volatile times. As the path to recovery lies ahead, our commitment to sustainability is immutable. Our goal - Fly Net Zero - to achieve net zero carbon by 2050 will require an industry-wide and collaborative effort. As part of this effort, CFOs will have a key role to play."

Additionally, the 4-day symposium will delve into topics that are strategic to airlines' financial sustainability and sustainability as an industry, from securing future financing in a less favourable landscape to gaining agility through retail and financial digital transformation.

While key industry meetings will take place on September 19 and 20, the World Financial Symposium will take place on September 21 and 22.

On the second day, the symposium will focus on 'Shaping Finance - Our Future Agenda', 'Securing Future Financing', 'All green or at what price' and 'Airline Retailing: Covid a catalyst for change?'.

Experts will further brainstorm the financial risk management, Offers and Orders: Road to customer centricity and higher profitability.

WFS will also feature a review of the industry's economic outlook and resilience from Marie Owens Thomsen, IATA's Chief Economist.
