The Directorate of Education in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate celebrated the International Literacy Day, which falls on September 8 every year.

Its goal is to remind the people about the importance of eradicating illiteracy, which is crucial to ensure human rights and dignity.

The celebration of this day also helps to advance the plan of the Ministry of Education in literacy and move it forward towards more knowledge driven.

The theme of this year, which is approved by UNESCO, is 'Changing learning structures to eradicate illiteracy.'

The day is also an opportunity to take stock and consolidate the various achievements witnessed by the governorate in literacy and adult education. The number of illiterate persons in the governorates has decreased, which reflects the success of various programmes of the Ministry of Education.

Among its most important projects are the one which involves schools and its role in convincing illiterate adults to learn letters and numbers.

The educated village project is another key project, which will be implemented this year in Al Hail in Al Jabal Al Akhdhar, targeting the villages of the wilayat.

With the beginning of the school year, the Adult and Continuing Education Department is keen to receive applications from illiterate people who wish to resume their studies. This involves hiring teachers and providing text books.
