

The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MoTCIT) organised a meeting with the governors of various governorates to discuss the implementation of programmes under the National Programme for the Digital Economy for 2021-2025, which has been approved by the Council of Ministers.
Dr Ali bin Amer al Shaithani, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, said the National Programme for the Digital Economy would be a solid platform for achieving national visions and goals.
He said the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology will focus on several important areas, namely the growth of data centres and cloud services and the use of Fourth Industrial Revolution techniques to empower economic sectors, digital content industry, cybersecurity industry, government digital transformation and attracting technical investments to the Sultanate of Oman.
The meeting also reviewed a digital transformation programme, which touched on the governance, smart services, digital innovation, decision-making and the achievements of the e-transformation plan during the period between 2012 and 2020.
The meeting reviewed the performance of the human resources management system (Mawred), the individual performance management system (Ejada) of the Ministry of Labour, the unified financial management system at the Ministry of Finance, the health services management system, the unified system for municipal work services in the Governorate of Muscat, the electronic document management system and digital archives, the tender management system, the national planning and follow-up system at the Ministry of Economy, in addition to the feedbacks received on the Vision 2040 platform.
The meeting recommended that the governorates reclassify services and document their procedures to ensure their conformity and alignment with administrative changes after restructuring the state’s administrative apparatus, simplifying procedures, and re-engineering operations before starting the stage of automating services.
It was also recommended the importance of cooperation in the use of central digital solutions and services to avoid duplication and enhance spending efficiency.
