MUSCAT: Oman Human Rights Commission (OHRC) held its second meeting of the fourth annual session under the chairmanship of Shaikh Abdullah bin Shuwain al Hosni, chairman of the committee, on Tuesday.

During the meeting, the OHRC discussed its newest authorities including complete autonomy in practising its activities and purviews.

The commission issued a decision to form a work team chaired by the OHRC deputy chairman. The team will draw up the new regulation of the commission in accordance with the Royal Decree restructuring the Oman Human Rights Commission (OHRC).

In addition, the meeting debated ongoing preparations for conducting a workshop on September 25-27 on the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment, the International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance and the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ICESCR), which were recently ratified by the Sultanate of Oman. The aim is to follow up on the implementation of these conventions and develop more mechanisms for their enforcement.

The commission also reviewed what has been achieved from the annual plan for the current year and what will be implemented during the upcoming period. — ONA
