Players are suffering career-threatening injuries and most of them find it difficult to make a comeback after some surgeries and treatment.

In the context, traditional herbal treatment with massage is offering a window of hope for players and public as well.

Much will depend on the herbs and oils used for the massage and treatment, says Dhanwandharan Vaidyan, a traditional medical practitioner based in Southern Indian state of Kerala.

“We have to use the original herbs as ingredients for the oils and medicines. That combined with the deep knowledge of health and the after-effects of injuries to the body is a pre-requisite for a successful treatment for such conditions,” he said.

Based in Kattapana, Idukki in Kerala, Dhanwandharan had already made a difference for many celebrities including singing maestro KJ Yesudas and Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

Also taking his treatment are top politicians, government officials and professionals.

Vaidyar, with a rich experience of more than 30 years in traditional medicine, has a variety of treatment to offer the injuries sustained by the sports persons.

“From olden times, we are using traditional oil ‘dhanwandaram thailam’ to keep the body healthy and fit. It is still used to sooth injuries and keep body flexible. The oil is carefully prepared and lot of process goes through before it is being made.”

“There are various options for sportspersons who suffer injuries during matches and other occasions. ‘Kshatha thailam’ is another oil which gives quick relief for the athletes and other sports persons for bone injuries and fractures.”

The sports persons are advised to undergo such body massage and treatment at least once in three months to keep their body fully fit.

“These small courses of traditional massages and intake of herbal medicines once in three months will give surprising results in terms of the players’ performance and overall fitness,” Dhanwandaran said.

“It is ideal to have a traditional medical expert along with the top sports teams to take benefit of this highly effective and harmless treatment,” he said.

“These medicines have no side effects and in the long term provide good boost to the health of the sports persons even after they quit the field,” Vaidyar added.

He also cautioned against going for ‘duplicate’ traditional medicines that hardly have any content of original herbs in it.

“One has to carefully select the treatment and medicines like in any other medical field.”

The traditional medical practitioner has a remedy for the stress and mental issues suffered by the sports persons as well.

“There is special herbal oil head bath using a medicine ‘ksheerabala’ for reducing stress factors. It will help reduce stress and tensions and provide relaxation for the athletes during this highly competitive world of sports.”

These methods are very helpful to prevent and cure many pressing modern diseases and provide ever-lasting solution, he opined.

Not only treating injuries, Vaidyar suggests having a full-body massage by an expert massager with traditional oil and herbs once in a year to prevent many life-style diseases.

“Prevention is better than cure. After an age, we have to preserve our body. If one goes for annual full-body massage it will be very handy to prevent conditions like stroke or blocks as it will improve blood circulation and overall health of body organs. The use of proper natural oil and herbs in this treatment is essential as it will only help in boosting the immunity and give the desired results,” he said.
