Govt calls for digital access to all

Government seeks to ensure that people with disabilities and the elderly get fair living opportunities and have free access to services made available via digital platforms

The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MoTCIT) on Wednesday said all government departments and public and private firms should know about the National Digital Access Policy.


The ministry said that people with disabilities and the elderly must get fair living opportunities and have free access to services made available via digital platforms and called upon the government and private parties to provide easy access for the disabled and the elderly to transfer their digital services propagated in electronic sites, applications, and mobile phones.


All public and private establishments must upgrade their websites on par with global digital accessibility criteria and standards.


The National Digital Access Policy in the Sultanate of Oman offers electronic access to all segments and individuals of society to enable them to benefit from all opportunities on ICT platforms.


It may be noted that the Sultanate of Oman has charted an ambitious course toward a knowledge-based economy and achieving digital society and e-governance through national strategy, which includes all related aspects and components - from building human capacities, developing the required infrastructure, implementing an e-government approach to building trust and drafting the framework and legislation.


The government digital transformation programme 2021-2025 aims to build a sustainable knowledge society and raise the productivity and efficiency of the public sector by building national capacity, enhancing infrastructure, developing the IT industry, and improving the quality of government services and its delivery modes in accordance with the standards and a time span, ensuring its full compatibility with the objectives of simplifying procedures of services for citizens, the business sector and government institutions.


According to official sources, the process includes transforming business activities and processes to take full advantage of the opportunities of digital technologies to improve efficiency or manage risks, discover new opportunities and do things digitally.


The Sultanate of Oman seeks to develop a prosperous digital economy that contributes to the national economy. National Digital Economy Programme outlines a set of pillars, executive programmes, and action plans, in addition to medium and long-term targets aligned to Oman Vision 2040.
