Muscat: The Court of First Instance in Suhar charged a driving school for failing to provide the service in a proper manner, sentenced the owner to two months imprisonment, and imposed a fine of RO100.
The Directorate General of Consumer Protection Authority in Sohar received a complaint from one of the clients of a driving school. As she started learning at the school, her trainer assigned to her passed away and the institution did not provide an alternative instructor and refused to return the amount, which violated provisions of the Consumer Protection Law issued by Royal Decree No. 66/2014.
The law states, “The provider is obligated to provide the service to the consumer in a proper manner. Otherwise, the company is obligated to refund the value of that service as specified by the regulation."
As the client filed the complaint, the CPA took necessary measures and referred the matter to the Public Prosecution, which in turn investigated and referred it to the competent court that issued the ruling.
