Seeb defeat Al Nahdha to lift maiden Super Cup title

Muscat: Seeb lifted its historic maiden title of 2022 Super Cup after they edged past Al Nahdha 2-0 in the summit clash on Friday night at Al Saada Sports Complex in Salalah. Under a pleasant weather of Khareef, Marwan Taeeb and Salah al Yahyaei powered Seeb to claim the first major triumph in the new footballing season of 2022/2023 as both of them registered the winning goals in the match. The first half ended in a goalless draw despite series of scoring attempts missed by both teams. In the deciding half, Seeb pressed hard towards Al Nahdha goalie Ibrahim al Mukhaini. After several chances, Marwan Taeeb managed to open the scoring account through a strong header to lead his team in the 84th minute. Salah al Yahyaei confirmed Seeb’s victory when he struck the second goal of the evening before few minutes of the final match whistle by the referee Yahya al Balushi.



Later, the chief guest, His Highness Sayyid Marwan bin Turki al Said, Governor of Dhofar, presented the medals and awards to Seeb and Al Nahdha players, coaching staff and match officials in the presence of Salim al Wahaibi, Chairman of OFA, top dignitaries and officials.


The historic triumph of Super Cup meant, Seeb delivered a successful top performance at domestic level after clinching the HM Football Cup and Omantel league titles in the previous season. Seeb managed to reach into the West Zone semifinals. In this stage, Seeb will meet Kuwait's Arabi SC on September 5. The West Zone final, to be hosted by the winners of the Arabi SC-Al Seeb Club tie, will be held on October 4. The other semis tie will be between Bahraini clubs East Riffa and Al Riffa and it is scheduled on September 6.


The 2022/2023 top-tier league will begin on August 18 with three matches. The league title holder Seeb will begin their defending title with a match against new arrival Al Bashaer club at Seeb Sports Stadium. First division league champion, Al Oruba, will meet Al Suwaiq at the former home in Sur Sports Complex. The third joiner from first division league, Sur, will take on Al Musannah in the same day.
