MUSCAT, August 13: A sizable portfolio of investment opportunities in the industrial and manufacturing sector, many of them backed by offtake agreements, has been unveiled for investment by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion.

Identified with the support of the Oman Vision 2040 Follow-up Unit, these investment opportunities relate to projects and initiatives that fall under the auspices of: Oman Investment Authority (OIA), Public Establishment for Industrial Estates (Madayn), Petroleum Development Oman (PDO), Nama Holding and Mazoon Dairy.

In all, 22 such initiatives for industrial investment have been offered via the Invest in Oman portal of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion. Opportunities include: Manufacture of low voltage, gas insulated switchgear manufacturing; Air intake filters for gas turbines; Supply of raw materials for thermoplastic tubes; Manufacture of measuring instruments (temperature, level, pressure); Manufacture of IPF valves and valves, controls, actuators; Manufacture of perforating blasters for oil and gas applications; Manufacture of drilling parts; Manufacture of CCTV poles; Mixed chemicals, such as demulsifiers, Glycol (TDI, Diethylene, Monoethylene), polyamine, Shale Retarder Blend, Manufacture of reverse osmosis membranes; Manufacture of smart electrical device (AMR), MVAR5 capacitor banks in primary substations and 20 MVAR capacitor banks in primary substation and 11KV ring main unit: oil type, SF6 type, 33 and 11 kV air separator switch; and manufacture of carton packaging.

PDO has outlined investment opportunities linked to the supply of electric motors that convert electrical energy into mechanical energy that operates at a voltage of less than 1,000 volts for use in hazardous and non-hazardous environments. Another proposal is linked to the manufacture of air intake filters for gas turbines.

These air filters must prevent intake of dust particles with a size of more than 0.4 micrometres from entering the gas turbines and generators. There are many other applications of filters from the HVAC system in buildings to industrial and medical systems.

Other opportunities pertain to the manufacture and supply of raw materials for thermoplastic tubes used in the production of tubes for corrosion protection in PDO flow lines, pipelines and their applications.

Investments in these manufacturing opportunities will further enhance the industrial sector’s contribution to GDP growth, create new hubs for investment in various governorates, as well as open up employment avenues for local Omanis, the ministry added.
