Muscat: Khareef marks the peak time of mosquito breeding as days are mildly hot and nights are pleasantly cooler.
If one is in Dhofar, one must take steps to avoid mosquito bites. Dr Haifa bint Ahmed al Juma, a dermatologist, told Oman Radio, that the khareef weather in Dhofar is favourable for mosquitoes. One must choose appropriate clothing and use skin creams. If the bites cause severe rashes, one must consult doctors.
Experts also recommend using mosquito repellents such as a spray that contains eucalyptus and lemongrass extracts.
Mosquitoes are also carriers of many infectious diseases like malaria, dengue, Japanese encephalitis, chikungunya, Zika, yellow fever and West Nile fever. Mosquito bites can also cause skin irritation, itching, and even allergic reactions. Therefore, it is necessary to wear clothing that covers all parts of the body as much as possible. Light coloured clothing, long-sleeved shirts and shoes are ideal.
As Khareef reaches its peak with heavy rains in Dhofar, visitors from Oman and abroad are flocking to the governorate.
During khareef, from June 21 to mid-September of each year, the Governorate of Dhofar attracts visitors and tourists from inside and outside the Sultanate of Oman to enjoy the beauty of the nature of its mountains, beaches and plains away from the summer heat, as Salalah is one of the most important tourist resorts in the region.
