Salalah - The OQ Group on Sunday launched an awareness campaign in Salalah for the safety of gas pipelines to ensure the safety of tourists and residents during the Khareef season in the Governorate of Dhofar.

The awareness campaign in the Governorate of Dhofar comes as part of the group’s responsibilities toward promoting safety and health in the places, neighborhoods, and villages on the path of these pipelines, which have a length of more than 4,000 km.

These pipelines carry the gas to electricity generation companies, factories, and economic zones in the Sultanate of Oman, apart from meeting the household needs of cooking gas.

Eng. Mansour bin Ali Al Abdali, Acting CEO of gas networks at OQ Group, said that the campaign aims to enhance awareness of the importance of gas pipelines and associated assets, as well as emphasize the readiness of the group's emergency plans during the autumn season."

He pointed to the most prominent challenges during the Khareef season are setting up of temporary sheds for barbecues, grills, and parking of cars inside the gas pipe sanctuaries. Several unauthorized activities and family gatherings are also conducted in those sanctuaries. The gas pipelines are protected by Royal Decree 8/2011 of oil and gas law.
