VIENNA: Swiss Football Federation (SFV) women's game director Tatjana Haenni said on Friday she has received plenty of support after publishing a hate letter against women in the sport she has received.

Haenni posted the offensive letter on her Twitter account and then said in a statement that by doing so "I want to make the public more aware and show that respect and tolerance are still trampled upon too often."

"Unfortunately we receive quite a few letters and mails in which national team women's and men's players and other members of the SFV are humiliated and insulted. These statements are disrespectful, vile and hurting," she added.

Haenni is a former Swiss international, coach and Fifa official who has been working for women's rights in the sport. The SFV recently agreed to have equal pay for men's and women's national team players.---dpa
