National School Beach Games Championship begins tomorrow

As many as 110 students representing seven different educational governorates from the Sultanate of Oman will begin the competitions of National School Beach Games Championship in Salalah on Saturday. The event, which is to be held under the Organisation of Oman School Sports Association (OSSA) at the sandy fields of Sultan Qaboos Youth Complex for Culture and Entertainment venue in Salalah will run for five days and will feature beach handball and beach volleyball.


Those students who are born in 2006 or 2007 are eligible to take part in the beach handball competitions with two more students born in 2008 . While the allowed age group for beach volleyball are the students who are born in 2005 or 2006 only.


The official draw of the championship will take place at the Sultan Qaboos Youth Complex for Culture and Entertainment on Friday. The participating teams will be distributed into two groups and each group will comprise three teams for beach handball competitions while there will be four teams in group A for beach volleyball competitions and group B with three teams. The top two teams from each group will advance to the semifinals and the winners from semis will meet in the final clash to decide the winner while the looser will play third and fourth play-off matches.


The teams from different parts of the Sultanate of Oman arrived in Salalah are currently undergoing final technical preparations ahead of the competitions start.


According to the organisers, the championship targets on spreading educational moral values and the necessity of sporting culture to the students and aims to act as a crucial event that may contribute to discover and develop the talented students in beach games.
