MUSCAT: Bank Muscat is offering its merchant partners a revolutionary payment experience that expedites digital payments by their customers at the checkout counter.

It is easy for businesses across the country to implement QR-code based payments. This means that retail outlets can easily accept digital payments by customers using the mBanking app or Wallet of any bank in Oman.

Merchants can easily implement the new payment solution by downloading the Bank Muscat Merchant Wallet App and transforming their smartphones into a payment channel using either Dynamic QR or Static QR codes.

Alternatively, merchants may also choose to implement Bank Muscat PoS machines, which enable QR-code based payments apart from those through regular Credit, Debit and Prepaid Cards. Most importantly, the QR-code scanning option allows merchant partners to accept e-payments from customers quickly and securely, irrespective of their bank or wallet. Payments can be easily initiated from a customer’s Mobile Banking application or Wallet application to the merchant’s account by scanning a QR code. A merchant can also request money from a customer using the Mobile Payments System registered mobile number / Alias / QR code.

Says Abdullah bin Hamood al Jufaili, Assistant General Manager, Digital Banking, Bank Muscat, on the occasion: “The currently ongoing digital transformation will bring about a huge positive change as both businesses and customers shift to digital payments, which offers prompt and highly secure payment options that boost economic growth and development. QR-code payments enable small businesses to accept cashless transactions in secure and reliable manner in line with legal requirements. Merchants can easily track sales and payments, leading to better overall responsiveness and customer experience. We are delighted to have already on-boarded over 800 merchants to the QR-based payments facility and look forward to welcoming more partners in the coming days.”

QR-code payments are based on the Central Bank of Oman’s Mobile Payment System (MPS), which also enables customers to easily make payments, transfer funds or request funds from others. Funds can be transferred instantaneously using one of the following modes. For person to person transfers, money can be sent or collected from the recipient’s default account or wallet.

‘Send money’ can be initiated by using mobile number, Alias or by QR code scanning and ‘collect money’ can be initiated using recipient Alias/Mobile Number if both the sender and recipient are registered on MPS. Bank Muscat customers have the facility to register on the MPS via both its BM Wallet and the mBanking app. Funds can be transferred instantly and at zero cost to both Bank Muscat and non-Bank Muscat accounts or wallets by using their MPS -registered mobile number/alias/QR code. There is no need to enter an account number. Beneficiaries can be instead selected from one’s phone contact list to initiate a payment.
