Oman under-19 football team suffered a blow when they lost 1-0 by Egypt in the Group D match of 2022 Arab Cup U-20 Championship at Dhamak Club Stadium in Abha , Saudi Arabia after a tight match on Thursday. The only goal in the fixture was scored by Egypt’s Ahmed al Hawash in the first half.

The win saw rivals Egypt capturing first three points in the group and getting much closer to advance from the group. It was the first official defeat in a tournament for Oman head Coach David Gordo since he took charge of the team earlier this year.

The Spanish coach, Gordo, began the match with a starting line up featuring Mazin Saleh as a goalie. Ayman al Nabhani and Salim al Abdali defended the back line alongside Said Ghasib and Montaser al Mawali. The middle line was monitored by Ahed al Mashakhyei, Abdulmajeed al Balushi and Sultan al Marzooqi. Mohammed Abdulhakeem and Nasser al Saqri assisted the strikers Mulhem al Hadharami.

During the break, Coach David Gordo, reviewed the team’s presence and tactics and deployed new faces in the field. However, Egypt’s defenders and behind them the goalkeeper broke all the attempts. Oman will meet Somalia at Prince Sultan bin Abdul Aziz Stadium in Abha city on Sunday. Oman’s chances to progress into the second stage is still open as the topper from each group will advance to the quarterfinal along with two runners up teams in the groups.
