Oman’s FIVB International Volleyball Coach Instructor, Dr Shihab Aldin Ahmed al Riyami, was appointed as the development committee chairman at the Oman Volleyball Association (OVA). Dr Al Riyami has wide technical experience in coaching and is certified trainer of International Volleyball Federation (FIVB), governing body of volleyball.

Dr Al Riyami said: “I thank OVA officials for trusting me and appointing me to this post. We will do our level best to train players, coaches and technical members. I am going to learn from them as well. I will work hard to deliver the most efficient learning outcomes for them.”

Dr Al Riyami will present FIVB Level 2 Coaches Course (Advanced stage) in Saudi Arabia, which begins on Friday. The five-day course organised by the Saudi Volleyball Federation (SVF) will take place at Al-Dammam Leaders Training Centre and it is part of the developing federation volleyball plan in the country.

As many as 32 coaches from KSA, Egypt, Yemen, Iraq and Lebanon who are former national players, physical education teachers, student trainers and club coaches will participate in theoretical and practical sessions of the training course. They will be trained in volleyball fundamentals, coaching skills, physical conditioning, training and the basics of mini-volleyball.

Dr Al Riyami said that this is the third time he will represent FIVB in Saudi Arabia. “The course aims to develop coaches’ knowledge and support SVF’s plan in improving volleyball coaching programmes. I believe that SVF is looking to increase the number of qualified coaches through FIVB Coaches Courses in the future. These courses will improve the coaches’ understanding of volleyball coaching and training.”
