SALALAH: The Al Najd Agriculture Development Department and the Farmers Association in the Governorate of Dhofar held a meeting to deliberate on solutions to challenges being faced by cultivates in the Al Najd Agriculture Zone in the Governorate of Dhofar.
During the meeting, both sides discussed options to boosting revenue from farming activities, creating job opportunities and establishing a logistics area to support farmers.
Both sides also discussed avenues for partnerships between the public and private sectors to support investment projects and to involve agricultural associations in the programmes and policies to maximise development of agricultural lands.
The meeting was held in the Frankincense Hall of the Directorate General of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources in the Governorate of Dhofar in the presence of Eng Rashid bin Said al Ghafri, Director General of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources.
Also present were a number of ministry officials, members of the farmers’ association in the governorate and owners of farms in Al Najd Zone.
During the meeting, a visual presentation was presented by Dr Khalid bin Salim al Mashikhi, Assistant Director-General for Dam Affairs at the Ministry, who is also acting Director of the Office for Al Najd Agriculture Development.
Al Mashikhi reviewed the current situation in the Najd region and highlighted the challenges and the Ministry's objectives to reduce the gap in food security.
