Oman ships LNG to Puerto Rico

MUSCAT: Exports of Omani liquefied natural gas (LNG) during the first half of 2022 increased by 8 per cent to reach 5.9 million tons compared to 5.5 million tons during the first half of 2021.


Oman’s exports of LNG during the first quarter of 2022 reached 3 million tons and in the second quarter of 2022 exports reached 2.9 million tons, which is a figure that indicates Oman LNG’s plant is working at its full capacity of 11.4 million tons annually. During the first six months of 2022, Oman’s exports of LNG reached 0.9 to 1 million tons monthly.


Among the new locations which received Oman’s gas is Puerto Rico in North America (67,000 tonnes). This shipment was delivered in June 2022.


A debottlenecking project undertaken by Oman has enabled an increase in out by 1 to 1.5 million tons annually.


Major Asian markets seized the lion’s share of Oman’s gas exports. At the forefront of those markets was Korea, which received 2.25 million tons during the first half of 2022, constituting 38 per cent of exports. Japan received 1.51 million tonnes 26 per cent). Other markets included China, India, Taiwan and Thailand.
