Oman’s LNG exports reach 5.9m tonnes during first half of 2022

Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman’s exports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) during the first half of 2022 increased by 8% to reach 5.9 million tonnes compared to 5.5 million tonnes during the first half of 2021.


Oman’s exports of LNG during the first quarter of 2022 reached 3 million tonnes and in the second quarter of 2022 exports reached 2.9 million tonnes, which is a figure that indicates Oman LNG company’s plant is working at its full capacity of 11.4 million tonnes annually.


During the first six months of 2022, Oman’s exports of LNG reached 0.9 to 1 million tonnes monthly.


Among the new locations which received Oman’s gas is Puerto Rico in North America (67,000 tonnes). This shipment was delivered in June 2022.


Oman LNG company began a project that aims to ease congestion in the liquidation plant to increase exporting capacity by 1 to 1.5 million tonnes annually.


Major Asian markets seized the lion’s share of Oman’s gas exports. At the forefront of those markets was Korea, which received 2.25 million tonnes during the first half of 2022, constituting 38% of exports. Japan received 1.51 million tonnes, constituting 26%. Other markets included China, India, Taiwan and Thailand.
