Oman’s Salim al Yarubi wraps up World Athletics Championships participation

MUSCAT: Oman national athlete Salim bin Saleh al Yarubi concluded his participation at the ongoing World Athletics Championships in Oregon, USA. Al Yarubi took part at the qualification of long jump competitions and he ended in the 15th position with a mark of 7.43M. He had three attempts including the initial one which did not end on a successful note. The second attempt was the best as he recorded 7.43 while in the third attempt, he registered 7.29. Oman’s Salim al Yarubi holds the best national record of 7.80. Japan’s Yuki Hashikoa clinched the first place in Group A qualification as he cleared 8.18 while Marquis Dendy from USA came in second place with a mark of 8.16. Swedish athlete Thobias Montler claimed the third place and advanced to the next stage as he recorded 8.10.



As many as 12 athletes competed in the finals of Men’s long jump later on Saturday. The top athletics event, which will conclude on July 25, witnessed participation of more than 1,900 athletes from 192 countries, including 42 Olympic champions who won individual gold medals.Oman’s delegation to the World Athletics Championships was headed by Mohammed al Balushi, national team in charge, Emad Saraj, head coach and the athlete Salim al Yarubi. On the other hand, Oman’s athletics team concluded their latest journey at West Asian Youth Championships in Lebanon on successful note. The team captured ten medals including three gold medals, three silver medals and four bronze medals.
