Muscat: Muscat woke up to rains on Thursday morning while satellite image from Oman Met Office showed the flow of cumulus rain clouds over the Governorate of Muscat and on parts of the governorates of Al Dakhiliyah and North Al Sharqiyah, places located between Qurayyat, Ibra and Bidbid, which may lead to rainfall of varying intensity.

By midday rainfall of varying intensity on the Governorate of Muscat and parts of the Governorates of Al Dakhiliyah and South Al Batinah (Barka, Bidbid and Samail), with the continued flow of convective rain clouds on the coasts of the Governorates of South Al Sharqiyah and Muscat is expected.
Thunder cell activity continued on the Eastern Hajar Mountains in the Wilayat of Al Mudhaibi with chances of rain, said the Met Office.
Bushra al Saadi, Meteorologist at Oman Met Office, said, “Highest precipitation in the last 24 hours recorded at Oman Met Office stations was in Sur 46.8 mm, Jalandhar Bani Bu Hassan 29.6 mm, Wadi Bani Khalid 28.8 and Saiq 13.8 mm.”
On Wednesday South Sharqiyah and Al Dakhiliyah had been affected by thunderstorms causing flash floods.
She further explained, “The low pressure system is located north of India and the Sultanate of Oman is affected by cloud advection across the Arabian Sea.”
The impact of the trough of the low pressure area has been experienced across most governorates of Oman. The Meteorologist the weather pattern will continue till July 9, 2022.
So rains will accompany the festive weekend. According to the weather experts one can expect flash floods and so not to cross running wadis, which is a punishable offense. They have also said it is important to stay away from low lying areas and secure vehicles by parking at higher ground.
The sea is unsafe to venture into currently.
“The sea state is being considered tough as wave height in the Arabian Sea is 4.5 meters that is categorized as rough. Meanwhile, Oman Sea wave height is recorded as two to three meters which is classified as moderate to rough.
