Salalah: An official talks session was held in the Governorate of Dhofar on Sunday between the Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Yemen. The session covered areas of transport, communications and information technology.
During the session, the Omani side was headed by Eng Said Hamoud al Maawali, Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, while the Yemeni side was headed by Dr Najeeb Mansour al Auj, Minister of Communications and Information Technology.
The two sides reviewed bilateral cooperation in the fields of transport, communication and information technology and means of enhancing them. They also touched on several topics, including means of encouraging investment, business, technology and logistic partnerships between the two countries and setting up joint ventures, as well as addressing challenges and coming up with solutions in a bid to boost the mutual cooperation.
Al Maawali said that the session dealt with ways of promoting relations in areas related to land, maritime and air transport, transit commerce, investing in free zones and enhancing work in communications and information technology.
On his turn, the Yemeni minister underlined the importance of such joint meetings in reactivating the agreements signed between the two sides in the previous years. He said that the session discussed means of activating investments, as well as facilitating bank procedures for Yemeni investors.
Al Auj added that many projects are expected to be inaugurated in the near future, including reconnecting communications cables in the border of the two countries.
Meanwhile, Dr Ali Masoud al Sunaidy, Chairman of the Special Economic Zones and Free Zones (OPAZ) said that the two sides will work to set up a mechanism that boosts the maritime linkage between Salalah Free Zone and Yemen.
