Oman Olympic Team to gear up for WAFF meet in Turkey

MUSCAT: The Oman Olympic football team is back in action again on Friday through an internal preparatory camp at Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex.


The seven days of domestic warm up gathering will be followed by an external camp after Eid break holidays in Turkey from July 18 to 31.


Khalid al Wahaibi, team manager, said that the overseas camp will feature several friendly games against some Turkey clubs.


“ We are in communication with many clubs to arrange many preparatory matches in the external camp. The confirmation of the warm up matches are still pending and it may get confirmed in the coming days'', he added


The team, coached by Akram Habressh, is gearing up to take part at 2022 West Asian Football Federations (WAFF) U-23 Championship which will be played in Iraq during 3 to 18 November, 2022.


Moreover, the team will participate at Gulf Cup for U-23 championships in August 2023 and then at AFC Asian U-23 qualifiers in September 2023 which acts as qualifiers to 2024 Paris Olympics Games.


The ongoing internal camp is part of the set plan for the team to raise their readiness for the future’s assignment.


The preparatory camps are inline with the player’s summer educational leave as most of them are students in colleges and universities.


Oman Olympic team had several short internal camps during the past few months and played some local games. The team defeated Royal Navy team 4-1 and suffered a 1-0 loss against Ministry of Defence team. The friendly games were an opportunity for the coaching staff to evaluate the squad performance.


Oman U-23 squad: Maytham al Ajmi, Nasser al Rasbi, Nawaf al Hosni, Osama al Hadabi, Said al Salami, Mutee al Saadi, Mohammed al Hatmi, Abdullah al Habsi, Muntaser al Zadjali, Abdullah al Qatabi, Salim al Abdusalam, Abdullah al Musharafi, Fahad al Rasbi, Khalid al Ghatrefi, Khalid al Abadi, Nooh al Zadjali, Mouther al Khalili, Issa al Naabi, Mulhem al Sunaidi, Musaab al Lamaki, Nasser al Rawahi, Ahmed al Busaidy, Tariq al Mashari, Basil al Jabri, Abdullah al Yarubi and Mohammed al Hinai.
