MUSCAT: An agreement was signed between the Medical Research Centre at Sultan Qaboos University and Abbott Laboratories Company to conduct a research study at the level of the Arabian Gulf on the relationship of triglycerides in the blood with cardiovascular disease (CVD). This study will be held in five Gulf countries (Oman, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Bahrain and Qatar). The study aims to collect and analyse clinical data on the association of high triglycerides in the blood with the risk of cardiovascular disease and the most important means of treatment and continuous follow-up.

The research team in this study will be led by Dr Khalid al Rasadi, Director of the Medical Research Centre at Sultan Qaboos University, where Dr Al Rasadi explained that this study comes as a continuation of the previous Gulf population studies, in order to shed light on the most important risk factors associated with cardiovascular disease, which is considered as the most prevalent and the main cause of mortality in the Arabian Gulf region.

The agreement was signed by Dr Amer al Hinai, Vice-President for Post Graduate Studies and Scientific Research, Sultan Qaboos University, Dr Mazen Bachir, General Manager for the Gulf and Emerging Markets, Abbott Laboratories Company, and Dr Nadine Bou Aoun, Medical Affairs Director for the Gulf and Emerging Markets.
