Delegated by HM, EA chairman participates in 2022 UN Ocean Conference

Muscat: Delegated by His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, Dr Abdullah bin Ali al Amri, Chairman of Environment Authority (EA) is taking part in the 2022 UN Ocean Conference being held in Lisbon in Portugal.


The conference is organized by the United Nations (UN) and will continue until July 1, 2022. It discusses the implementation of the 14th goal of the Sustainable Development Goals (life under water), which is part of the 2030 Sustainable Development Plan and within a set of 17 transformational goals that stress the need to preserve the world’s oceans, seas and marine resources and their sustainable use.


The 14th goal focuses on issues, such as oceans, reducing marine pollution, protecting marine and coastal ecosystems, minimizing acid, eliminating illegal and overfishing, increasing investment in scientific knowledge and marine technology, and respecting the international law that calls for the safe and sustainable use of the ocean and its resources.


The conference also discusses strengthening efforts to create and manage solutions to achieve the 17 sustainable development goals (SDGs) by 2030, and promote sustainable solutions for green technology and innovative uses of marine resources. The solutions also include addressing threats to the health of the ocean environment, economy and governance.
