First day of Eid al Adha likely to be on Saturday, July 9: MERA

Muscat: The Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs (MERA) has invited citizens and residents to sight the crescent of the month of Dhul Hijjah for this year 1443 AH on Wednesday, 29th Dhu’l –Qi’dah, corresponding to June 29,2022.


According to the astronomer expert Dr. Subaih Al-Saadi, the astronomical calculations conducted by MERA reveal that the moon will be in the conjunction phase at 6:53 am on Wednesday, corresponding to June 29 (Oman local time).


“In the event of clear sky, moon sighting for the month of Dhul Hijjah will be possible across some governorates of the Sultanate on Wednesday, June 29. The crescent might be also sighted in some Arab and Islamic countries”, he stated.


Accordingly, the first day of the month of Dhul Hijjah will fall on Thursday, June 30, the Day of Arafah will be on July 8 and the first day of Eid al Adha will fall on Saturday, July 9.
