OTTA to work on comprehensive plan for WVC at Rimini Veteran Championships

MUSCAT: Working on an intensive marketing and promotion plan towards organising a successful event of World Veteran Championships (WVC) in Muscat in earlier 2023 was the top agenda of Oman Table Tennis Association (OTTA) board directors meeting on Tuesday.


The meeting which was chaired by Abdullah Bamakhalif, OTTA Chairman, in presence of all the members, approved attendance of Oman’s delegation at the 2022 European Veteran Championships which will take place in the city of Rimini from June 25-July 2, 2022 at the Rimini Fair, Italy.


The delegation will be headed by the OTTA chief in attendance of OTTA vice chairman and two members from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth and Ministry of Heritage and Tourism.


Oman’s delegation will participate at the Rimini Fair which will include Oman’s pavilion, supported by STAG company. The top European Veteran event will act as a vital tourney to encourage more participants to register in WVC earlier next year.


The board meeting which took place at the meeting hall in Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex venue, also confirmed the Oman Junior TT team participation at the West Asian TT Championships in Jordan which will be held during July 26 until August 6.


The OTTA board thanked all the efforts taken by the national teams committee, team players and coaching staff towards holding a successful external camp in Iran which runs for 14 days and concluded on Tuesday on a bright note.


The preparatory camp was part of the team’s attendance in the Asian qualifiers for West Asian zone in Bahrain and West Asian TT championships in Jordan.


Hosting a new edition of WTT Contender in Muscat during the end of August and early September was another item in the board agenda discussion.


The board requested a detailed study to be carried out by some of the board members including intensive study on logistics and technical requirements with proposed recommendations to the board. Accordingly, the board of directors will the take the best decision.


OTTA’s board directors Mohammed al Jassasi and Masoud al Shaqsi were nominated to represent the association at the AGM and technical meeting of the West Asian TT Federation which will take part during July and August.


The Head of competitions committee presented the forthcoming domestic events including the national junior TT championship which will be held during July 14 to 16 while national cadet TT championship will take place during August 11 to 13 at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex venue.


On the other hand, umpiring committee chief showed during meeting that more umpiring courses will be organised during the coming months to graduate more referees ahead of 2023 WVC beside some coaching courses to develop domestic coaches technical capabilities.
