"Omani media plays a key role in creating national awareness"

Muscat - Dr. Abdullah bin Nasser al Harassi, Minister of Information, said that the Sultanate of Oman’s hosting of the 31st Conference of the International Federation of Journalists on Tuesday demonstrates the Sultanate’s ability to organize major international events, and contribute to strengthening the presence of the Sultanate of Oman at the global level.


In an interview on the radio program 'Sabah al Shabab, Al Harrasi said, "What gives this conference greater importance as the media plays a fundamental and effective role in introducing countries and societies, raising awareness in various fields, and developing and developing the intellectual and cultural dimensions of societies in its various segments."


He added, "This conference, in which more than 350 journalists from various journalistic backgrounds and international media institutions will participate, will constitute an opportunity to introduce the Sultanate of Oman and its economic, natural, historical, and cultural elements, and what characterizes the nature of a society in which social peace and intellectual balance prevail, in addition to What you are witnessing of development and development in all walks of life."


This wide presence of journalists from different countries of the world for this event reflects a great appreciation at the international level for the Omani media, its policy, line, and approach represented in rationality, calmness, balance, and giving priority to the interests of nations, societies, and people, based on the fact that the stability of societies is the ground on which development in various fields is based, he said.


Al Harrasi said that this conference is a tribute to the history of the Omani media of more than 50 years, during which it played essential roles in raising national awareness and guiding the society for its own good.


He praised the efforts made by the Omani Journalists Association to host the 31st International Conference of the International Federation of Journalists Congress in the Sultanate of Oman, which required a lot of coordination between associations, unions and press associations in countries of the world.


The conference will include sessions and meetings for international journalists that introduce development activities, Oman Vision 2040 and its most important programmes, the Sultanate of Oman's economic policies, the Omani foreign policy, and the Omani media.


The minister drew attention to the level of progress reached by the Omani media in various aspects, especially by taking advantage of the technical development.


The 'Ayn platform' enables the subscribers to access all the audio-visual media material from the beginning of the modern renaissance, as well as the live broadcast of the radio and TV channels of the Sultanate of Oman, in addition to the development witnessed by the Oman News Agency and local newspapers.


He praised the Nizwa magazine, which is one of the most important Arab cultural magazines, and the monthly cultural supplement of the Oman newspaper, which has high-end knowledge and cultural content and is appreciated by Arab intellectuals and thinkers.


Nizwa magazine is considered one of the best and finest articles published by the Arab cultural press.


Al Harrasi stressed that the Omani media is based on prudence, respect for everyone's opinions, presenting true diversity based on evidence and thought deepening opinions, and spreading true awareness on which the solid national building is based.


His Excellency Dr. Abdullah bin Nasser Al-Harassi, Minister of Information, praised the great and very important role played by the private media in spreading awareness and knowledge, represented in private radio and newspapers, and the development they are witnessing, which calls for pride, stressing that this success reflects the general national success of the Omani media.


He touched on various meetings with young people who are interested in the press and media and who specialize in them and affirmed his support for them and their capabilities, urging them to complete the Omani media's march towards the future by developing their skills and faculties in various aspects of media work.


The minister that the freedom of expression is guaranteed, and that there are no restrictions for any journalist or media person or for any citizen who wishes to express his opinion with evidence and deep visions in any field, within the framework of the law that regulates media practice, in a manner that enhances the process of development and construction.


The minister pointed out that the members of society in the means of communication express what is in their minds and their hopes and aspirations, and this should be understood and appreciated as long as it is within national borders, and within the limits of the law, provided that it does not infringe on anyone, does not infringe on the freedom of another person and does not exceed a law of the Sultanate of Oman. "Whenever he is within these limits, he is welcome."


He said between people were verbal in the past, while it is now done through social media, and that everyone speaks in a high national and humanitarian spirit aimed at developing and developing what is better in various fields.
