Oman bagged two gold in shooting on the third day of GCC Games in Kuwait on Wednesday.
In the Men’s 10m Air Rifle final at the Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Shooting Complex, Omani shooter Salim al Naabi beat UAE’s Ibrahim Ali by 17-11 in the gold medal match.
Oman’s Olympic shooter Issam al Balushi came third with 254.5 points in the final elimination round to take the bronze medal.
Salim (256.3) and Ibrahim (256.7) were neck-and-neck in the final elimination.
The Sultanate of Oman earned its second gold at the shooting range one and half hours later in the Men’s 25m Rapid Fire Pistol.
Muad al Balushi came on top to clinch gold with a score of 23 points ahead of Bahrain shooters Abdulmajid Abdulkhaliq (14) and Abdulla Rahma (5) who claimed the silver and bronze medals respectively.
In the medals tally, Oman are third with seven gold, four silver and seven bronze.
Bahrain are on top with 13 gold, while Kuwait are second with 11 gold.
On Tuesday, Issam had won gold in the Men’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions after he prevailed over Saudi Arabia’s Abdulaziz al Anazi by 16-6 in the gold medal match.
In Men’s 10m Air Pistol, Oman’s Suleiman al Rahbi took the bronze after coming third in the Final Elimination.
Atallah al Anazi of Saudi Arabia edged UAE’s Ahmed al Ameeri 16-14 in the gold medal match.
In the men’s triple jump at the Ahmed Al Rashdan field, Oman’s Salim al Rawahi clocked 15.85 metres to take silver while team-mate Salim al Yarabi bagged bronze with a distance of 15.53.
Saudi Arabia’s Hassan Dawshi won the gold after clearing a distance of 16 metres.
In the men’s 4x100m relay, Oman claimed the silver with a timing of 39.72 seconds. Saudi Arabia won the gold in 39.06 seconds and Bahrain took bronze with 39.73 seconds.
The Oman 4x100m relay team included Ali al Balushi, Barakat al Harthy, Ammar al Saifi and Mohammed al Saadi.
In swimming, Oman clinched their first medal in the men’s 200m freestyle when Olympic swimmer Issa al Adawi (1:54.79) finished third on Tuesday.
UAE’s Yousuf al Matrooshi (1:52.95) won the gold and Kuwait’s Saud al Shamroukh (1:53.65) took the silver at the Sheikh Nasser Al Mohammed Aquarium Complex.
