Omani adventurer Khamis bin Mohammad Ambusaidi, along with his colleague Muslim bin Salim al Kalbani, arrived at the main base camp of Mount Everest, which is 5,364 metres above sea level.

The adventurers travelled 130 km on the Himalayas -- a walk for 11 days -- even as the temperatures dropped below zero. They were on their way back on Monday through the same route that they had taken to climb.

Talking about the objective of their adventure, Khamis Ambusaidi said: "Our goal is to raise the flag of Oman among other major countries' flags there, besides making the nation's presence felt at various levels and highlight its tourism value. We also wanted to prove that Omanis are capable of achieving such tasks."

It is a hard journey carrying all personal belongings throughout the onward and return trips. The length of the track is more than 130 km on the Himalayas.

Khamis Ambusaidi said that the path is so hostile and progress so arduous that the climb requires high fitness, patience, endurance, determination and strong will. The ability to adapt and withstand extreme cold, which reaches below zero most of the time, is another requirement. Adapting to the lack of oxygen is the biggest challenge for anyone who embarks on such an adventure.

"I want to tell all young people, go before it's too late, and don't let the train of life pass without achievements. Enjoy your youth before it's too late, explore your hidden abilities, and make yourself a glory of which you can be proud," says the adventurer.
