Muscat: Acting in coordination with the United Nations’ Economic and Social Committee for West Asia (ESCWA), the Ministry of Economy held a workshop on Tuesday to familiarize representatives of government units about the programmes of the ESCWA.

The workshop explored ESCWA’s success stories in countries of the region and studied ways to develop its technical cooperation with the Sultanate of Oman.

Models of technical cooperation were outlined during the workshop, which also covered economic modeling, the simulator set for policy makers in the Arab region and the social spending monitoring mechanism. It also dealt with the ESCWA’s debt swapping initiative, the collaboration of lenders to fund climate action, the SDGs and inculcating social justice principles in national policies and programmes.

In a welcoming note, Dr Nasser Rashid al Maawali, the Ministry of Economy’s Undersecretary, who chaired the workshop, affirmed Oman’s keenness to enhance partnership with international organizations and tap the repertoire of international experts.
