Cooperation with University of Cambridge explored

MUSCAT: The Ministry of Education received a delegation from the University of Cambridge on Wednesday by Dr Abdullah bin Khamis Ambusaidi, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Education for Education and Majid bin Said al Bahri, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Education for Administrative and Financial Affairs.


The visiting delegation included Prof Esra Ozyurek, Professor of Sultan Qaboos Chair for Abrahamic Religions and Shared Values at the University of Cambridge, Dr Daria Frank, Professor of the Sultan Qaboos Chair for Mathematics and Christopher Whitney, Director of Partnerships at the University of Cambridge.


They discussed the current challenges and priorities in developing education in line with the National Education Plan and Oman Vision 2040, laying out ways to develop an educational system at a global level, and enhancing research capabilities in the education sector. They also discussed related financial aspects such as establishing an effective and sustainable financing system for the education sector and how to develop and monitor the main indicators for education, due to the importance of strengthening cooperation with such prestigious universities in which there are scientific chairs and presenting joint initiatives and projects to serve academic and research interests and priorities in the Sultanate of Oman.


At the meeting, the delegation examined aspects of cooperation between the two parties and ways to create opportunities in the field of strengthening teaching and learning in mathematics through innovative modern methods, making education more fun and exciting in practical life.


The delegation also touched on the idea of the ministry benefiting from the expertise of the University of Cambridge in organising the Math Olympiad competitions and benefiting from the experiences of this university also in providing expertise and educational consultancy for teachers, curriculum developers and decision-makers.
