As many as 73,668 small and medium enterprises (SMEs) have been registered with the Authority of Small and Medium Enterprises Development in all governorates of the Sultanate of Oman.
Muscat Governorate has the most number of SMEs with 25,212 followed by North Al Batinah (11,267), Al Dakhiliyah (8,410) and Dhofar (6,912).
Sector-wise, wholesale and retail trade, auto repair, construction and manufacturing, are the top sectors with SMEs activities.
The total number of craftspeople registered with the Authority of Small and Medium Enterprises Development reached 23,383 by the end of March. This includes 7,502 craftspeople working in the cotton textile industry and 5,327 in the woolen textile industry.
Incense and cosmetic industry account for 4,045 craftspeople, date palm sector 3,011, pottery industry 1,227, leather industry 745 and fishing tools industry 426 while the other sectors such as silverware, flower and herbs distillation, woodwork, copper and metals work, stone and gypsum industry and musical instruments, employ 685 craftspeople combined.
The statistics published by the Authority of Small and Medium Enterprises Development show that the highest number of craftspeople are centred in the governorates of Dhofar, North Al Sharqiyah and North Al Batinah.
Meanwhile, a total of 35,606 Riyada Cards have been issued for small and medium enterprises by the Small and Medium Enterprises Development by the end of March including 10,374 SMEs operating in the wholesale and retail trade and auto repair sectors and 9,549 SMEs operating in the construction sector.
