Muscat: Zainab bint Ali al Yarubia from the Wilayat of Masirah in South al Sharqiyah Governorate wanted to do something different in life and took to the profession of vehicle maintenance, a field generally dominated by men.
She is proficient in dealing with tasks such as changing lubricants, damaged parts, and repairing vehicles.
Zainab performs technical and mechanical works such as removing spark plugs and handling issues related to engines by removing the engine cover and searching for technical faults, in addition to inspecting the vehicle regularly.
Zainab, who did not want to live a monotonous, stereotyped life, apart from climbing mountain summits, decided to practice the profession of selling spare parts for new vehicles.
The role model was her father as she watched him work in an automobile workshop passionately.
In 2006, she began to sell spare parts in a shop attached to a vehicle repair workshop as working directly with men was one of the main challenges.
Al Yarubia’s dream was not impossible, but rather difficult, as she faced a lot of criticism at the beginning of her career for working in a field that was always seen as a mens' domain.
Zainab's goal is to own her own workshop (for women's vehicles) in Masirah and pass this passion on to other women by training them to find direct job opportunities.
