

The Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority (CDAA) announced the end of search operations at the Ibri mountain collapse site in a quarry that killed 13, in Al Dhahirah Governorate on March 27.
The authority further said the bodies of all the missing people as a result of the rockslide were found and hence, the operations at the site have come to an end.
"We have found all missing people under the huge rubble after the mountain collapsed in the quarry that killed 13 people in all," a CDAA spokesperson said.
The week-long operations and rescue search were conducted with the participation of the Royal Oman Police (ROP), the engineering services at the Ministry of Defence and other relevant authorities, dealing with a rockslide accident in a quarry in the Wilayat of Ibri in Al Dhahirah Governorate.
He further said that because of the size of the collapse, the difficult terrain of the place and the number of people trapped under the rubble of rocks, the authority directed the National Search and Rescue Team to search for other people and establish an advanced operations centre at the site to manage the aftermath of the accident.
In the context of the National Committee for Emergency Management’s (NCEM) keenness to provide human and material capabilities to urgently rescue people, the NCEM met under the chairmanship of Lt Gen Hassan bin Mohsin bin Salim al Shraiqi, Inspector General of Police and Customs, Chairman of the NCEM, and in the presence of a number of members of the committee to follow-up on searches.
After strenuous efforts that lasted for a week, and the use of advanced equipment and mechanisms, tracing dogs, thermal cameras and other means, the teams were able to retrieve the eight more bodies, after retrieving 5 bodies initially.
The CDAA extended its sincere condolences and sympathy to the bereaved families of the deceased as a result of the rockslide and the speedy recovery of those injured in the accident.
